The Sault Varsity Sabercats continued their dominant start to the 2025 Ontario Summer Football League (OSFL) season with a commanding 40–7 victory over the Clarington Knights under the lights on Saturday, May 25th.
Fresh off a statement 35–1 win in Peterborough in week one, the Sabercats showed no signs of slowing down as they returned to the road for week two. Quarterback Matti Tucker led the offensive onslaught, throwing four touchdown passes in a performance that left the Knights’ defense scrambling for answers.
Nate Carter was a standout target for Tucker, hauling in three touchdown receptions and making his presence felt throughout the evening. Drayden Brock added to the air attack with a touchdown grab of his own, while running back Nathan Guizzetti powered into the end zone for a rushing touchdown to keep the offense balanced and unpredictable.
Backup quarterback Alex Hayes also made an impact, connecting with Lucas Spin for a touchdown reception to cap off the Sabercats’ scoring. Kicker AJ Coccimiglio converted four of five extra point attempts, contributing key points to round out the scoreboard.
On the defensive side of the ball, the Sabercats continued their trend of shutting down opponents, limiting the Knights to just one touchdown all game. The cohesive play on both sides of the ball demonstrates why the Sabercats are quickly emerging as a top contender in the 2025 OSFL season.
Sabercats coach Jamie Antonello told Saultsports that “I thought we performed well today and continued to build off of the good things we did in week one. We dealt with some adversity today as well, especially early on, which was good to see us overcome. We controlled the flow of the game today, our Defense forced turnovers and our Offense was explosive.”
Now sitting at 2–0, the Sault Varsity Sabercats return home with momentum on their side and eyes set firmly on a deep postseason run. Stay tuned for the Sabercats’ next matchup as they look to continue their undefeated run and bring more OSFL success back to Sault Ste Marie on May 31st when they host the Scarborough Thunder at Rocky DiPietro.
