The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League (NOJHL) announced Monday that defenceman Mason Chitaroni (Greater Sudbury Cubs), along with forwards Owen King (Blind River Beavers) and Kaeden McArthur (Timmins Rock) have been named its Three Stars of the Week, for the period ending February 9th.
Mason Chitaroni, (D) Greater Sudbury Cubs: Returning to the Greater Sudbury line-up after an extended absence due to injury, Chitaroni bolstered the Cubs significantly in back-to-back shutouts in the time frame.
Seeing his side not give-up a goal-against in the two triumphs, the 20-year-old from Marathon, Ont., also collected his first NOJHL hat trick, featuring the game-winner, in a triumph at French River Saturday. This came after getting back on the ice for his first league action, since December 19, on Thursday in shutting out the Soo Eagles.
The Greater Sudbury captain presently leads all NOJHL defencemen in point-per-game average, among those who have skated in 30-plus contests at 1.13 and holds down second spot in total points by blueliners with 35, in 31 appearances.
Owen King, (F) Blind River Beavers: Registering his league-best fourth hat trick of the 2024-25 campaign Sunday, King continues an impressive scoring run.
His natural three-tally outburst in a win against Powassan, saw the Beavers finish a week in which they secured a playoff spot. He has now scored 23 times, in his past 15 appearances, which dates back to the beginning of December.
Hailing from Cambridge, Ont., the 18-year-old King, is currently tied for the NOJHL lead in both goals and game-winning efforts with 39 and 10 respectively.
Kaeden McArthur, (F) Timmins Rock: Helping the Rock continue their winning ways, 19-year-old McArthur provided a pair of multi-point performances in a couple of successful results for his hometown club.
He began with a goal and an assist, aiding in a victory versus Espanola Friday, then finished up by notching another and adding a further helper as part of a road result at Iroquois Falls the following evening.
Having already established a career single-season high in assists with 28, McArthur’s next point will see him set a new mark in points at 47.
