SUDBURY, Ont. – The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League’s Iroquois Falls Storm have announced that defenceman Benjamin Coatham has committed to Portage College where this fall where he’ll attend school in Alberta and further his hockey career.
The 20-year-old stay-at-home type blueliner from Calgary, Alta., saw action in 33 NOJHL contests, as well as four playoff games, with Iroquois Falls during the 2024-25 season.
In all, Coatham tallied twice from the back-end for the Storm and also added seven assists for nine points.
One of his markers was a game-winner and the other came via the power play.
“Ben was an integral part to the development of our team culture this season,” said Iroquois Falls head coach and general manager Jamy Bernier.
“His experience helped our younger players grow and understand the junior hockey game, which was a huge asset for our team this season,” Bernier went on to add.
“We look forward to following his career at the next level, while he advances his education.”
Portage College is located in Lac La Biche, Alta., where the Voyageurs are one seven schools in the highly competitive Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference.
They are coached by former NHL forward Kevin McClelland, who was a four-time Stanley Cup winner with the Edmonton Oilers, as part of his NHL 12-year career.
