In a thrilling Sault Ste. Marie High School Hockey League matchup on Friday, December 13, the fourth-place Superior Heights Steelhawks faced off against the league-leading CASS Huskies. The Steelhawks struck first, with Tye Rushon scoring his fourth goal of the season on a power play in the opening period, giving his team an early lead. The Huskies responded in the second period when Logan McAuley found the back of the net for his fifth goal of the campaign, tying the game 1-1 and setting up a decisive final frame.
In the third period, the Huskies showcased their depth and dominance, starting with Chad Gendron netting his fourth of the season to give CASS their first lead. Mika Chong followed up with his fifth goal of the year before Aven Zelonko and Hayden Wells sealed the game with one goal each. Zelonko’s tally marked his second of the season, while Wells notched his sixth, assisted by Huskie netminder Cash Roswell. Despite a strong effort from Steelhawks goaltender Lipenski, Roswell stood tall in net for the Huskies, backstopping them to an impressive 4-2 victory. The win further solidified the Huskies’ first-place position in the standings with a two point lead over the Korah Colts.
