
From June 5th to 7th, the St. Mary’s College Knights proudly represented Northern Ontario at the 2024 OFSAA Girls’ AA Soccer Championship in Kingston, Ontario. The Knights joined 19 other elite high school programs from across the province in pursuit of the provincial title.
Heading into the tournament, St. Mary’s opened their round robin schedule on Thursday morning with a strong 2-0 victory over ES L’Essor Aigles of Windsor. The win gave the Knights an early boost in confidence and momentum heading into their second match of the day.
Later that afternoon, the Knights faced a tough test against the East Northumberland Dragons from Brighton. With a determined effort, St. Mary’s won 4-1 to the highly ranked Dragons in their second group game.
The Knights returned to the pitch Friday morning for an 8:30 a.m kickoff against the Kings Christian Collegiate Cavaliers of Oakville. In a closely contested match, the Knights earned a hard-fought 1-1 draw to open day two of competition.
Needing a win to keep their playoff hopes alive, the Knights delivered in their final round robin game, edging the King City Secondary Lions of King City 1-0 in a gritty performance Friday afternoon.
With a 2-1-1 record in pool play, St. Mary’s advanced to the quarter-finals and met the Regiopolis Notre Dame Panthers of Kingston at 5:45 p.m on Friday. In a tightly contested and physical match, the Knights fell just short, dropping a 1-0 decision to the Panthers to end their OFSAA run.
The 2025 OFSAA “AA” Girls Championship roster for the St Mary’s Knights included Ava Barone, Abby Carlucci, Marisol Carota, Vanessa Carota, Kiannah DeLuca, Zoe Foltz, Bryce Gagnon, Thea Iachetta, Abigail Jaremko, Kloe Kurylo, Marissa Levesque, Sienna Magli, Danielle Naslovar, Alexa O’Dell, Tru Toms, and Lola Valente along with the coaching staff of Carmen Coccimiglio (Head Coach), Sergio Bernardo (Assistant Coach), Jason Jaremko (Goalie Coach), and Shannon Sarlo (Teacher Rep).
While their championship dreams came to a close in the quarter-final, the St. Mary’s Knights showcased their skill, resilience, and team spirit on the provincial stage—representing Sault Ste. Marie and Northern Ontario with pride.
