The Soo U13AA Greyhounds are heading to the big stage. Over the weekend of April 5th and 6th in Timmins, Ontario, the Greyhounds battled through the 2025 NOHA U13AA Tournament of Champions, capturing gold and earning their spot at the 2025 OHF U13AA Championships in Aurora, Ontario.
The tournament featured top-tier Northern Ontario talent, with the Soo joining the Copper Cliff Reds, Nickel City Cubs, North Bay Trappers, Sudbury Wolves, and the host Timmins North Stars—all vying for a single spot at provincials.
The Greyhounds set the tone early with a dominant 5–0 shutout win over the Nickel City Cubs in their opening game at 12:00 p.m on Friday, April 4th. Later that evening at 5:00 p.m, the Soo continued their strong play with a 4–1 victory over the Sudbury Wolves, wrapping up a perfect day one.
Saturday morning brought an early challenge against the North Bay Trappers. The Greyhounds kept their momentum rolling with an impressive 6–1 win. Then, in their final round-robin game at 12:30 p.m, the Soo edged out a tough Copper Cliff Reds team 2–1 to complete round-robin play with a flawless 4–0 record.
In the semi-final on Sunday morning at 9:00 a.m, the Greyhounds met the North Bay Trappers once again. The Soo stayed focused and punched their ticket to the final with a 3–1 win.
The gold medal game saw the Greyhounds face off against the host Timmins North Stars. With a spot at the OHF Championships on the line, the Soo left no doubt, blanking the hosts 3–0 in a commanding shutout victory.
The Soo U13AA Greyhounds roster included Logen Dahl, Colton Daynard, Casen Eby, Liam Evans, Emmett Gillett, Noah Jones, Liam Kerr, Jax Kirkpatrick, Aleks Majic, Max Maki, Mitchell McLeod, Liam Murray, Jack O’Neill, Eli Pagliaro, Evan Reynolds, Daniel Tolin, and Remi Tombari along with coaching staff of Frank Porco (Head Coach), Aaron Evans (Assistant Coach), Tony Porco (Assistant Coach), Jon Dahl (Assistant Coach) and Howie Gray (Assistant Coach), Marinda Dahl (Manager), and Aaron Evans (Manager).
U13AA Greyhound coach Frank Porco told Saultsports that “our team is about hard work and compete. When we compete we have a chance to beat anyone. As a coaching staff we really liked what they saw at the NOHA Tournament of Champions, because we gave up four goals in six games we need to focus on our defensive play and take advantage of our offensive opportunities. We have been working hard at practice to keep our momentum going and will continue to work hard on and off the ice this week to make sure we are ready to compete this weekend in Aurora. Like any short tournament it’s attention to the details we are focusing on in hope it will make the difference.”
With the win, the Soo U13AA Greyhounds clinch the NOHA title and move on to represent Northern Ontario at the 2025 OHF U13AA Championships in Aurora from April 18–20, where they’ll compete against the Quinte West Hawks, London Jr. Knights Green, a GTHL representative, and the host Aurora Tigers.
