The Soo Thunderbirds of the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League (NOJHL) announced today the acquisition of defenseman Brayden Gosselin from the Creston Valley Thunder Cats of the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League (KIJHL), in exchange for a player development fee.
Standing at 6-foot-2 and weighing 210 pounds, Gosselin brings size, strength, and a physical edge to the Thunderbirds’ blue line. The Summerland, British Columbia native suited up for 39 regular season games with Creston Valley during the 2024–2025 KIJHL campaign, recording two assists and 33 penalty minutes.
Thunderbird general manager Jamie Henderson told Saulsports that “’We are thrilled to add Brayden to our program. He’s a competitive player who brings it every day on and off the ice. His former team raved about his attitude and work ethic. He’s close to 6’3 and over 210lbs so he will bring a lot of physical play to our back end.”
“I’m excited to be apart of the Thunderbirds organization and I believe it’s a vital stepping stone in my career as far as acquiring a roster spot on a competitive college or university team once my Junior years are over. I am a player that I believe is a dying breed in today’s game. My skillset as a 6’2 and 210lbs right handed D-man consists of aggressive and constant punishment on the ice. Whether that’s in the corner, in the front of the net or between whistles I want to get in the other team’s head, wear down and create doubt in the opponents mind. My philosophy as a D-man is defense first and that’s what I’ve excelled at throughout my career. That being said I’m looking to come to Soo to expand my game beyond my current capabilities and become an offensive threat as well,” added Gosselin.
