
The Sault Surge Aquatic Team hosts the North Eastern Ontario Region’s best swimmers this upcoming weekend February 7-9, 2025 at the John Rhodes Community Centre Pool.
250 swimmers representing ten clubs from the North Eastern Ontario Region will be in attendance at the Dave Kensit Memorial Championship meet. Last season saw an attendance of just over 200 swimmers entered into the meet.
The local Sault Surge Aquatic Team will be represented by 42 athletes with a strong contingent in each age group represented. The Surge will also be entering a relay in each relay event.
The 2024 NEOR champions Sudbury Laurentian Swim Club will be in attendance defending the regional championship banner. Clubs from Timmins, North Bay, Kapuskasing, Kirkland Lake, Temiskaming Shores, Valley East, Nickel City, Cochrane, and Sturgeon Falls will be in attendance at this year’s Meet.
Racing gets started Friday February 7 with a session for swimmers aged 11 and over beginning at 5:00 p.m.
Sessions continue Saturday and Sunday. Preliminaries for 13/over swimmers are set for Saturday at 8:30 a.m with athletes hoping to advance to the Finals session Saturday evening at 6:30 p.m. 12 and under aged athletes race in a timed final session that starts at 1:00 p.m.
Sunday Preliminaries for swimmers aged 13 and over are scheduled for 8:00 a.m. A session for finals for those 13/over swimmers along with a timed final session for swimmers aged 12 and younger is scheduled to start at 12:30 p.m.
Spectators are welcome free of charge with some great racing expected as swimmers strive for gold, silver, and bronze. as well as the opportunity to qualify for upcoming Provincial and National Championship meets. A Dave Kensit Memorial NEOR championship banner will be presented to the large and small team with the most points that are awarded for each event in each age group placing 1 through 8. A Dave Kensit Memorial scholarship intended to assist a worthy NEOR swimmer in the continuation of their educational and competitive endeavours will be presented on Sunday, February 9.
