The Sault Surge Aquatic Team will be on the road for competitions in two different directions over the May 23rd to 25th weekend.
12 athletes will head east to Timmins for the 2025 Fred Rams Memorial NEOR ‘B’ Championship meet hosted by the Timmins Marlins Swim Club. 21 athletes will head west to Thunder Bay for the 2025 Thunderbolts Able Energy Grand Prix meet hosted by the Thunder Bay Thunderbolts.
Most of the athletes competing this weekend will look to finish a successful season off strong and are looking to set new personal best times. A few will look to extend the season by meeting qualification time standards to be eligible for the upcoming Ontario Swimming Championships in Toronto in July. Some athletes will be looking to fine tune some strategies heading into the Provincial championship meet.
The meet in Thunder Bay will be swam in an Olympic sized 50m pool against clubs from the Northwest Region of Ontario as well as teams from the Minnesota area of the United States.
The meet in Timmins will be swam in a 25m sized pool and serve as the Northeastern regional ‘B’ championship meet. Swimmers will be de-qualified to compete if they have had too many qualification standards for the Dave Kensit memorial championships.
The Surge will have more swimmers in action at both meets than at both of the meets last season.
