The Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) has announced its Players of the Week for December 28-31 and four student-athletes from two different programs have been recognized. Stiven Sardarian (Michigan Tech) earned his second straight Forward of the Week award, while Tynan Ewart (Northern Michigan) collected Defenseman of the Week for the second time this year. Ryan Ouellette (Northern Michigan) was the Goaltender of the Week and Logan Morrell (Michigan Tech) garnered Rookie of the Week for the second time.
CCHA Forward of the Week: Stiven Sardarian, Jr., Michigan Tech (Saint Petersburg, Russia)
Sardarian paced all CCHA skaters with three points last week, dishing out three assists, including setting up the overtime-winner in Michigan Tech 4-3 overtime victory over Northern Michigan on Monday. Finishing at +2 for the week, he had three shots on goal and two blocks defensively.
CCHA Defenseman of the Week: Tynan Ewart, So., Northern Michigan (Duncan, B.C.)
Ewart led conference blueliners in points (2), assists (2) and blocked shots (8) last week for the Wildcats, as they fell to No. 1 Michigan State, 2-0, and Michigan Tech, 4-3 in overtime. He had four blocks in Northern Michigan’s GLI opener against the Spartans, before recording two helpers and four more blocks as the ‘Cats came back to force overtime against Huskies in the Third Place game.
CCHA Goaltender of the Week: Ryan Ouellette, Sr., Northern Michigan (Colorado Springs, Colo.)
Ouellette posted a CCHA-best .953 save percentage last week, stopping 41-of-43 shots against No. 1 Michigan State on Sunday in the Great Lake Invitational semifinals. After allowing two goals in the first period, he closed out the game with 32 consecutive saves, keeping the Wildcats within striking distance.
CCHA Rookie of the Week: Logan Morrell, Fr., Michigan Tech (Mesa, Ariz.)
Morrell scored the overtime-winning goal for Michigan Tech in the Great Lakes Invitational Third Place game on Monday, capping a week in which he also recorded five shot on goal and finished with a -1 rating.
