On Sunday, December 15th, the Superior Heights Steelhawks faced off against the first-place CASS Huskies in game one of a Sault Ste. Marie High School Hockey League doubleheader. The Steelhawks entered the matchup hoping to bounce back from a 4-2 loss to the Huskies just two days earlier. Despite their best efforts, the Steelhawks found themselves overwhelmed by a dominant Huskies lineup. The first period set a competitive tone, but it was in the second where the Huskies began to pull away, with Aven Zolenko, Hayden Wells, Brody Kleist, and Dawson Merling all finding the back of the net.
The third period saw the Huskies continue their offensive onslaught, with Tyler Quenneville and Austin Finlayson adding to the scoreboard. CASS netminder Cash Roswell was stellar between the pipes, earning his third shutout of the season by stopping all 17 shots he faced. On the other end, Jacob Nelson worked tirelessly for the Steelhawks, turning away 34 of 40 shots in the loss. The Huskies’ 6-0 victory cemented their place atop the league standings, while the Steelhawks were left regrouping for the second game of the doubleheader.

Huskie coach Spencer Lawrence told Saultsports that “I think the overall performance tonight was excellent, our defense was solid and we were quick to transition into offense, which really set the tone in the 2nd period. We maintained focus throughout the game and every player contributed. Cash Rowswell was again outstanding tonight, his positioning and ability to read the play really stood out. To stay on top of the standings I think we just need to maintain consistency in every game as well as keep the intensity up in practice.”
Next up for the Huskies will be on Wednesday, December 18th when the host the undefeated Korah Colts in Desbarats for a 12:30 p.m after matinee while the Steelhawks take to the ice on Thursday, December 19th when they face the St Mary’s Knights in a 3:30 p.m puck drop at the John Rhodes Centre.
