TIMMINS, Ont. – Bouncing back from a two-goal deficit, the Timmins Rock regrouped and later got a pair of third period man advantage tallies to knock off the Greater Sudbury Cubs 4-3 Friday in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League contest at McIntyre Arena.
Greater Sudbury got the game’s initial marker deep in the first period, and late into a power play, when Daks Klinkhammer came out from the corner boards and worked his way to the high slot where he snapped a shot through traffic that eluded Timmins’ goaltender Dryden Riley at 18:58.
Heading to the second stanza, the Cubs went up by a pair when Samuel Assinewai forced a turnover, fired a shot that was stopped, but Lucas Antonioni was there to chop in a backhand.
The assist for Assinewai gives him at least one point in each of his last 21 games played.
The Rock came back to put one past Greater Sudbury’s Karsen Chartier at 6:43 thanks to Clark Scaddan slamming in a rebound from the left circle, off a Thomas Beard chance.
Kaeden McArthur then drew Timmins level on a delayed penalty by eventually jamming in a loose puck from the left of Chartier.
Answering right back, via the man advantage, Ben Harris put the Cubs back into the lead as he tucked in a backhand while parked in front of Riley.
Third period play saw the Rock tie it once more when Braedyn Cyr moved in from the point with his club up a skater and wired a wrister into the back of the net at 6:34.
Capitalizing on another man advantage, Beard wasted little time in roofing a Jack Kelly pass to give Timmins their first lead with 8:17 to go.
Up a skater late and with their goaltender out for an additional attacker, the guests pushed hard to knot the affair, but a couple of solid stops by Riley helped secure the home ice triumph for the Rock.
