SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. – The Lake Superior State (LSSU) hockey program is set to open the new year when they host fellow CCHA founding member, Bowling Green, for a weekend series with puck drop for game one scheduled for January 3 at 7:07 p.m.

The Falcons lead the all-time series between the two programs 94-80-14.
Connor Milburn (Kamloops, B.C.) enters the weekend 4th in the CCHA in points with 17 while Sasha Teleguine (North Attleborough, Mass.) is the league’s second leading goal scorer (8), and Nate Schweitzer (Champlin, Minn.) ranks 3rd in the CCHA in assists (12). Meanwhile, BGSU boasts the league-leader in goals in Brody Waters (9) with 6 of his tallies coming on the power play.
The series will also mark the first meeting of the season between the league’s only two individuals to have recorded a hat trick this season in Teleguine and Waters.
The Lakers enter the weekend with the top offense in the CCHA, averaging 2.94 goals per game.
LSSU also holds the top penalty kill unit in the league with a .871 success rate. Additionally, they continue to be well rounded on special teams, tied with St. Thomas for the top power play unit in the CCHA, scoring on .237 of their extra-skater opportunities.
Bowling Green and LSSU hold the top two face off percentages in the CCHA, setting up for intense battles in the circle.
Last season, the Falcons were able to come away with 10 of a possible 12 league points against the Lakers with LSSU notching an overtime win on Nov. 18, 2023 after Jared Westcott broke free to deliver the game-winner.
Connor Milburn enters the weekend leading the team in points with 17 while Schweitzer (13) Teleguine (12), Timo Bakos (Augsburg, Germany) (12), John Herrington (Hudson’s Hope, B.C.) (11), Evan Bushy (Thief River Falls, Minn.) (10) and Dawson Tritt (Spokane, Wash.) (10) have also notched double-digit points so far this season.
Teleguine ranks second in the CCHA in goal scoring with 8 after a 4-goal weekend against Bemidji State.
Schweitzer enters the weekend leading the team in assists with 12 which ranks third in the CCHA. 21 different Lakers have recorded at least one point so far this season while 14 Lakers have scored at least one goal.
