SUDBURY, Ont. – The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League (NOJHL) announced Monday that forwards Nolan Newton (Greater Sudbury Cubs); Daks Klinkhammer (Greater Sudbury Cubs) and DonHeaven Veilleux (Hearst Lumberjacks) have been named its final BrokerLink Insurance 3 Stars of the Week for the 2024-25 season.
Nolan Newton, (F) Greater Sudbury Cubs: Coming up big in the deciding contest of the NOJHL Final, the 19-year-old from nearby French River, Ont., dished out four assists, including setting up the eventual game-winner, helping the Cubs repeat as league champions.
Newton also had a helper in Game 6 to see him etch his name on the game sheet in 10 of his last 11 playoff contests, including six straight to wrap things up.
A standout for the Sudbury Nickel Capitals U16 AAA squad back in 2021-22 before joining the Cubs, Newton finished tied for fifth in postseason scoring with 22 points and shared fourth overall in goals-scored with nine.
Daks Klinkhammer, (F) Greater Sudbury Cubs: Another clutch performer for Greater Sudbury in their title run, Klinkhammer collected four goals and an assist last week.
With back-to-back two-tally efforts, the 19-year-old from Ajax, Ont., finished up the playoffs on an eight-game point streak, featuring four multi-point efforts in a row.
An alumnus of the Ajax-Pickering Raiders minor hockey ranks, Klinkhammer was fourth overall in postseason scoring 10 times and assisting on 14 others for 24 points.
DonHeaven Veilleux, (F) Hearst Lumberjacks: A key contributor for the Lumberjacks, Veilleux did his part scoring in each matchup during the time frame.
The 20-year-old from Dieppe, N.B., had the game-winner to send the series to a seventh and deciding affair to go with the deciding tally in another must-win situation in Game 5.
Skating previously in the Northern Moose U18 AAA system out of New Brunswick, Veilleux led Hearst offensively and finished second in NOJHL postseason scoring numbers with 26 points on 13 goals and as many helpers.
