saultsports SUDBURY, Ont. – The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League (NOJHL) announced Monday that forward Nolan Newton (Greater Sudbury Cubs); goaltender Mason Janicki (Kirkland Lake Gold Miners) and defenceman John Adlys (Iroquois Falls Storm) have been named its BrokerLink Insurance 3 Stars of the Week, for the period ending March 2.
Nolan Newton, (F) Greater Sudbury Cubs: Among the 15 multi-point performances so far in 2024-25 for the 19-year-old French River product, two of them came last week, helping Greater Sudbury clinch the regular season title.
This included a three-assist night in a home triumph over the Rapids as well as notching a goal and aiding on the game-winner in a road victory versus the Soo Eagles.
Sporting a league-best point-per-game average of 2.05, Newton has 45 in total through 22 contests so far this season, on a campaign in which he has only been held off the game sheet once.
Mason Janicki, (G) Kirkland Lake Gold Miners: An unbeaten run in two starts during the time frame, Janicki registered a win and a tie for the Gold Miners.
The 17-year-old netminder, who hails from Milton, Ont., stopped 40 attempts faced in a victory at Powassan, then kicked out 48 more shots as Kirkland Lake battled to a 2-2 draw with Espanola.
Janicki’s solid work between the pipes saw him register a strong save percentage of .935.
John Adlys, (D) Iroquois Falls Storm: Leading all NOJHL defencemen with four points, Adlys came up clutch in a much-needed win for the Storm on Saturday.
Scoring twice and assisting on two more, the 17-year-old blueliner from Waterloo, Ont., had a career-best single-game total in the result over the Paper Kings.
Adlys enters the new week on a four-game point streak and has moved up into the Top 10 in rookie scoring among defencemen.
