SUDBURY, Ont. – The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League (NOJHL) and its Board of Directors announced Friday that they have extended the Leave of Absence of the Elliot Lake Vikings franchise throughout the upcoming 2025-26 season.
This resulted due to the continuing uncertainties as to when the Vikings’ home venue of Rogers Arena, formerly Centennial Arena, in Elliot Lake will open again for use.
“Unfortunately, with the ongoing delays as to when the arena will be back in operation, the Vikings have been granted their extended leave,” stated NOJHL commissioner Robert Mazzuca.
The initial leave was granted by the league back in December of 2024.
“We just don’t know when the club will be able to resume activities as they wait for news on the status of their arena,” added Mazzuca.
The commissioner went on to add: “With that, the NOJHL will operate with 11 teams for the 2025-26 season. The league and our member clubs are currently working on the schedule for the upcoming campaign that will be announced in the coming days.”
