The Algoma University Thunderbirds announced Tuesday, April 15th the commitment of Erin Santin, a dynamic and versatile soccer player from Mississauga, Ontario, who will be joining the women’s soccer program this upcoming season.
A proud graduate of St. Martin Catholic Secondary School, Erin brings a wealth of experience and an impressive playing résumé to the Thunderbirds. Having played soccer since the age of three, she has developed into a strong, competitive force on the pitch—capable of playing both left/right wing and fullback with ease and confidence.
Erin’s club history includes stints with Erin Mills, LM Premier, Burlington OPDL, THPFC OPDL, and most recently with Milton Magic U20HP and Milton Magic L1 U20 Reserve. Her exposure to high-level competition includes appearances at the Costa Daurada Cup, FTF Showcase, ROPSSAA, OFSAA, and the Ontario Cup.
Her achievements speak for themselves—1st place at ROPSSAA, 3rd place at OFSAA, and a 2nd place finish in the Trillium OPDL are just a few highlights in her decorated youth career.
Off the field, Erin is just as impressive. She will be pursuing a Biology degree at Algoma U, and her academic accomplishments include being a Martins Club member, honour roll student, and recipient of the Highest Achievement Award in both Media Arts and Cosmetology.
When asked what she’ll bring to the Thunderbird program, Erin noted her balance of competition and congeniality, a mindset that will no doubt make her a valuable teammate and student-athlete in the Algoma community.
Outside of soccer, Erin enjoys cooking, baking, crafting, cosmetology, and working out—hobbies that showcase her creativity and passion for personal growth. Her favourite movie is Pitch Perfect, which perfectly captures her fun and energetic spirit.
Erin chose Algoma U because it felt like a “home away from home.” She shared, “I felt safe and comfortable in the environment and I feel like I will become the person I want to be and make lifelong friends along the way.”
