On Wednesday, December 18th, the third-place Soo Greyhounds (14-17) traveled to North Bay for a midweek clash against the fifth-place North Bay Battalion, who hold a record of 13-13-3, in Ontario Hockey League action. The Greyhounds, sitting just below the .500 mark with a 0.467 win percentage, are looking to improve their standing in a tightly contested division. Coming off a series of inconsistent performances, they aim to rebound with a strong showing against a Battalion team that has been equally competitive this season.
Marco Mignosa opened the scoring for the Soo Greyhounds early in the first period, netting his 12th goal of the season to give his team a 1-0 lead. The North Bay Battalion quickly responded in the second period when Andrew LeBlanc scored his fifth goal of the season, tying the game 1-1. However, the Greyhounds regained the advantage as Brodie McConnell-Barker capitalized on a scoring opportunity, registering his second goal of the season. Just minutes later, Brady Martin extended the Greyhounds’ lead to 3-1 with his 15th goal of the season, giving them a solid cushion. Charlie Hilton put the game out of reach for the Battalion with a quick strike, firing his second goal of the season to seal a 4-1 victory for the Soo Greyhounds. Between the pipes, Landon Miller had an outstanding performance, stopping 31 of the 32 shots he faced and earning his seventh win of the season. On the other side, Mike McIvor turned away 22 of 26 shots in the loss, as the Battalion fell to 14 defeats on the year. The Greyhounds’ offensive surge and Miller’s solid goaltending led them to a well-earned win.
