On Friday, January 17th, the Korah Colts and CASS Huskies delivered an electrifying contest in Sault Ste. Marie High School Hockey League action. The first-place Colts (15-1) solidified their dominance with a thrilling 3-2 overtime victory against the second-place Huskies (11-3) in a clash that showcased skill, determination, and heart.
The game kicked off with Korah’s Samuel Caruso opening the scoring in the first period. Caruso notched his eighth goal of the season, putting the Colts ahead 1-0. However, CASS responded swiftly as Dom Corbett buried his fourth of the season, leveling the score at 1-1 to close out the opening frame.
Both teams tightened defensively through the second period, keeping the scoreboard unchanged despite multiple chances on both ends.
In the third period, Korah reclaimed the lead on a power play. Tyler Lang, the league’s leading scorer, capitalized with his 18th goal of the season, giving the Colts a 2-1 advantage. The Huskies refused to back down, and Mika Chong delivered his sixth of the season to even the game at 2-2, setting up a dramatic overtime finish.
Overtime brought high-stakes excitement, and it was Korah’s Koen Manchulenko who played the hero. Firing home his 17th goal of the season, Manchulenko sealed the victory for the Colts with his second point of the contest.
Between the pipes, Colts netminder Payton Melchoirre and Huskies goaltender Cash Roswell both delivered stellar performances, keeping their teams in contention throughout the game.
With the win, the Korah Colts extend their league lead, improving their record to 16-1, while the CASS Huskies remain in second place at 11-4. Both teams are sure to carry this momentum as they continue their campaigns toward the playoffs.
