As the Algoma Thunderbirds Men’s Soccer team gears up for the 2025 season, leadership will come from the backline. Defender Jaden Timmis has been named team captain, bringing a composed, lead-by-example approach to the role.
Known for his consistency and dedication, Jaden isn’t the loudest on the field—but his presence speaks volumes. He’s earned the respect of his teammates by holding himself to a high standard every day, both in training and competition. “I set high standards for myself first,” he says, “then encourage the same work ethic from the team so we push each other further.”
With returning players, Jaden has built strong relationships rooted in mutual respect, accountability, and team-first energy. That same approach extends to the new recruits joining the program. His focus is on helping them feel confident, welcomed, and ready to contribute right away. “It starts with setting the tone early: welcoming everyone in, creating clear standards, and holding each other accountable.”
As a defender, Jaden understands that leadership doesn’t always come from being front and centre. Much of his influence happens through positioning, presence, and non-verbal communication. “You can’t always lead from the front,” he reflects. “Most of the time, you have to drive the team from behind and communicate through actions and gestures—not just giving orders.”
Looking ahead, Jaden is focused on continuing his growth as a leader while elevating team performance. Off the pitch, he’s hoping to foster stronger team chemistry through regular connection and off-field activities—believing that trust built off the field directly strengthens performance on it.
When asked about a defining moment, Jaden immediately points to last season’s dramatic win over York. For him, it wasn’t just about the scoreboard. It was about the way the team battled for each other—proof of what they’re capable of when united, focused, and hungry.
Being named captain is an honour he doesn’t take lightly. It’s a responsibility that reflects the trust placed in him by coaches and teammates alike—and one he’s committed to living up to with purpose and pride.
