
SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. – The Lake Superior State University (LSSU) Department of Athletics has selected Eric Snyder to be the next head coach of the Laker volleyball program, as announced by LSSU Director of Athletics, Tory Lindley.
“The addition of Eric Snyder is a strategic investment in the future of LSSU Volleyball, our student-athletes, and the continued growth of our program,” said Lindley. “Eric’s energy, volleyball-IQ, and proven ability to develop high-level talent align perfectly with our vision for success. This move reinforces our commitment to elevating Lake State Volleyball to the upper tier of the GLIAC and beyond! We are thrilled to welcome Eric and can’t wait to see the impact he will make educating, leading and developing our young women.”
Snyder, who boasts a career head coaching record of 290-197 across all levels, brings 20 years of coaching experience with him to Sault Ste. Marie, dating back to his time as a graduate assistant at Tiffin University from 2004-06. He has since won multiple conference championships, reached both the NCAA DIII and NAIA Final Fours, and led a Campbellsville program to be ranked No. 1 in the country and win an NCCAA National Championship in 2020.

They both shared a great vision and enthusiasm for attracting high-level students with unique academic offerings and updated campus facilities, all contributing to a first-class student-athlete experience.”
In his career, Snyder has been named as his conference’s Coach of the Year three times, across three different leagues as well as being selected as the 2019 NCCAA Regional Coach of the Year, 2020 AVCA and NAIA Coach of the Year, and being a 2009 AVCA Thirty Under Thirty Award recipient.
In total, Snyder has coached 17 All-American honorees, 37 All-Conference honorees, five Conference Liberos of the Year, three Conference Setters of the Year, and one Mid-South Conference Freshman of the Year.
Prior to accepting the position of Head Volleyball Coach at LSSU, Snyder most recently served as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at NCAA DI University of North Carolina Wilmington . In the fall of 2022, he helped lead the Bethel Pilots (Ind.) to a 23-12 record that included multiple wins over nationally ranked opponents and a trip to the NAIA National Tournament.
In four years as the Head Men’s Volleyball Coach at Campbellsville University (Ky.), Snyder led the program to new heights with a 94-24 overall record from 2019-2022. While with the program, he was named the NAIA Coach of the Year, won two Mid-South Conference Championships, was twice invited to the NAIA national tournament (was ranked No. 1 in nation prior to 2020 NAIA postseason being canceled due to COVID-19), reached the 2022 NAIA Final Four, was twice invited to the NCCAA National Invitational Tournament, and won the 2020 NCCAA National Championship.
Prior to his time at Campbellsville, he had career stops as the Head Coach at both Warner University (Fla.) and Coker University (S.C) as well as being an assistant coach at Emory University (Ga.) as well. Snyder had also served as the Head Volleyball Coach at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy (Conn.) where he helped the program to a conference title in 2011 and a trip to the NCAA DIII Final Four in 2013.
Other stops for Snyder include being the Head Coach and Sports Camp Coordinator at NCAA DI Stonehill College (Mass.) and a graduate assistant position at Tiffin University while pursuing a masters’ of business administration.
Snyder earned his bachelor’s degree in sport management / marketing from the University of Southern New Hampshire in 2004.
