On Friday, February 21st, the Korah Colts will take on the CASS Huskies for the 2025 Sault Ste. Marie High School Hockey League City Championship in a best-of-five series at the Northern Community Centre.
In their five previous contests during the 2024-2025 high school hockey season, the Colts hold a 4-1 record against the Huskies heading into the final series of the season. Four out of five games were decided by just one goal. The Colts and Huskies finished the regular season ranked first and second, respectively, with Korah posting a 21-1-4-1 record for 43 points, while CASS secured second place with a 16-5-1-2 record for 34 points.
Huskies forward Brody Kleist and Colts forward Koen Manchulenko led the high school scoring race. Kleist’s 33 goals and 16 assists topped the standings in 20 games, while Manchulenko finished the season with 25 goals and 19 assists in 21 games. Between the pipes, Korah’s Payton Melchiorre led all netminders with a 10-1 record in 11 starts, boasting a 1.23 goals-against average and allowing just 14 goals. For CASS, Cash Roswell had 16 starts with a 12-4 record and allowed 35 goals, ranking third among high school goaltenders in the league.
Both teams advanced to the finals after sweeping their respective best-of-three semifinal series. The Colts defeated the Superior Heights Steelhawks with 4-0 and 5-1 victories, while the Huskies dispatched the St. Mary’s Knights with 6-3 and 7-1 wins.
The winner of the city championship will earn a spot in the AA/AAA NOSSA Championships in North Bay, Ontario, on March 3-4. The team that claims NOSSA gold will move on to compete in either the 2025 AAA OFSAA Championship in Windsor or the 2025 AA OFSAA Championship in Sudbury from March 18-20.
