On Thursday, January 15th in Sault Ste Marie Girls High School Volleyball action, the Notre-Dame-du-Sault Voyageurs headed to White Pines to face the Wolverines while the Knights hosted the Superior Heights Steelhawks to close out week five of girls high school volleyball action at St Mary’s College.
In a strong performance at the junior level, St. Mary’s claimed a decisive victory over Superior Heights in two straight sets. The first set showcased St. Mary’s dominance as they cruised to a 25-10 win. Superior Heights regrouped in the second set and pushed St. Mary’s to the limit. However, St. Mary’s held their composure and sealed the match with a narrow 25-23 victory.
The win reflects the growing confidence and cohesion of the St. Mary’s junior squad, who showcased excellent teamwork and effective playmaking throughout the match. Superior Heights, despite the loss, demonstrated resilience in the second set, setting the stage for future competitive encounters.
In senior action, the matches brought plenty of excitement as White Pines and Superior Heights earned victories.
White Pines delivered a commanding performance against Notre Dame, winning in straight sets. The Wolves controlled the tempo from start to finish, taking the first set 25-15 and following up with a similarly dominant 25-14 in the second. Their ability to execute their offensive strategy efficiently and minimize errors proved to be the key to their success.
Meanwhile, the senior clash between Superior Heights and St. Mary’s was a nail-biter, with Superior Heights emerging victorious in two hard-fought sets. The first set saw both teams trading points in an intense back-and-forth battle, but Superior Heights managed to edge St. Mary’s 26-24. The second set mirrored the competitiveness of the first, with Superior Heights holding their ground to claim a 25-22 win and seal the match.
