The Algoma Thunderbirds announced Monday, April 21st the addition of Shalom Anyikwa, a talented guard/wing from Kitchener, Ontario, to the men’s basketball roster.
A graduate of Cameron Heights Collegiate Institute, Shalom has been playing basketball for the past four years and has quickly made a name for himself with his tenacity, hustle, and passion for the game. His ability to play both on the perimeter and slash to the basket gives him versatility at both ends of the floor.
Shalom has developed his game through time with Tri City Prep and the KW Vipers, competing in high-level tournaments such as NPH (North Pole Hoops)—Canada’s premier platform for high school basketball exposure. These experiences have shaped him into a competitor who thrives under pressure and leads by example.
When asked about his goals as a Thunderbird, Shalom said, “I’ll compete and bring energy.” It’s this consistent drive and focus that aligns perfectly with Algoma’s culture of accountability, hard work, and team-first mentality.
Off the court, Shalom has a passion for movies and most sports, showing his love for athleticism beyond the basketball court. He’ll be pursuing a Bachelor of Business Administration at Algoma U, where he aims to grow as both a student and an athlete.
With his winning mindset and high-energy style of play, Shalom Anyikwa is ready to make his mark at Algoma.
