The Sault Ste. Marie high school basketball season continued with exciting matchups on Thursday, January 16th, as week three action came to a close. The White Pines Wolverines squared off against the Superior Heights Steelhawks, while the Korah Colts hosted the St. Mary’s Knights in both junior and senior divisions.
Junior Division
White Pines Wolverines (42) vs Superior Heights Steelhawks (58)
The Superior Heights Steelhawks emerged victorious in their junior division clash against the White Pines Wolverines, securing a 58-42 win.
White Pines Wolverines: Dede Alabi led his team with an impressive 20 points, supported by Tristan Standinsky with 12 points.
Superior Heights Steelhawks: Nik Joseph contributed 16 points, Nathan Chintu added 14 points, and Ben George chipped in with 13 points to propel the Steelhawks to the win.
St. Mary’s Knights (42) vs Korah Colts (52)
In another tightly contested junior matchup, the Korah Colts claimed a 52-42 victory over the St. Mary’s Knights.
St. Mary’s Knights: Nishchay Dua scored 14 points, with Dallas D’Orazio adding 11 points and Nathan Grancic contributing 8 points.
Korah Colts: Deklyn Murdoch matched the game-high 14 points, Nolan Deluca provided 10 points, and Nolan Coudert’s effort helped secure the Colts’ win.
Senior Division
White Pines Wolverines (54) vs Superior Heights Steelhawks (43)
The senior division saw the White Pines Wolverines bounce back with a strong 54-43 victory over the Superior Heights Steelhawks.
White Pines Wolverines: Nick Louttit led all scorers with 17 points, while Jacob Day and Ethan McCorkell added 11 and 10 points, respectively.
Superior Heights Steelhawks: Nicholas Frost put up 13 points, with Will Middaugh and Brayden Richard contributing 9 points each in the loss.
St. Mary’s Knights (24) vs Korah Colts (69)
The Korah Colts delivered a dominant performance in the senior division, overpowering the St. Mary’s Knights with a commanding 69-24 victory.
St. Mary’s Knights: Anthony Niro led his team with 8 points, and Nathan Barone added 6 points.
Korah Colts: Zayne Murdoch led all scorers with 14 points, supported by Gevin Grisdale with 13 points in a team effort.
The next up in boys’ high school basketball games are set for Tuesday, January 21st. The St. Mary’s Knights will visit Superior Heights to take on the Steelhawks, while the White Pines Wolverines will face off against the Korah Colts at Korah Collegiate. Tipoff times are scheduled for 5:30 p.m. (junior) and 7:00 p.m. (senior).
