Soo Greyhounds General Manager Kyle Raftis announced today the signing of another member from the 2023 draft class.
Defenceman Chase Reid, whom the Hounds selected in the 7th Round (125th overall) of the 2023 OHL Priority Selection, is now official part of the Program after signing an OHL Scholarship & Development Agreement.
“We are thrilled to welcome Chase and his family to the Soo Greyhounds. Since attending development camp, Chase has made impressive strides in his game, progressing well beyond what you’d expect from a 16-year-old. As a smooth-skating, highly skilled defenseman with excellent size and puck instincts, we’re excited to add him to our blueline and look forward to his continued development this year and beyond” said Raftis.
Reid, a native of Chesterfield MI, started the 2024-25 season with the Bismarck Bobcats (NAHL) where he recorded 6 goals and 6 assists in 18 games played.
One season ago the 16-year old defender appeared in 68 games for Victory Honda 16U AAA where he had 14 goals and 48 assists, good for 62 points.
He also appeared in ten games for the Waterloo Blackhawks of the USHL.
The 6.02, 185lber who has arrived in Sault Ste. Marie had the following to say about signing with the Hounds:

“A quote I live by is – I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. First off I just want to thank my lord and savior without him none of this is possible. Second I would like to thank my family, friends, coaches and supporters who have helped me along the way” he added before ending with,
“I can’t wait to take the ice with the boys for the first time. Thank you to the coaching staff for all of your support and faith in me” concluded Chase.
The Greyhounds return back to the GFL Memorial Gardens for the final three home games before Christmas starting tonight – December 11 – versus Sudbury Wolves.
