At the Memorial Gardens in Sault Ste Marie on Saturday, February 1st, the Soo U16 Greyhounds hit the ice to face the visiting New Liskeard Cubs in GNU18HL action.
The Soo Greyhounds put on a commanding performance as they cruised to a 5-1 victory over the New Liskeard Cubs in a dominant display of offensive prowess and defensive strength.
The scoring began in the first period when Finlay Carlson notched his fourth goal of the season, slipping the puck past Cubs goaltender Matt Leitch to give the Greyhounds an early 1-0 lead. The Soo continued to apply pressure, and Adam Pszeniczny capitalized on the momentum, netting his 16th goal of the season to double the lead before the first intermission.
Pszeniczny wasted no time extending the Greyhounds’ advantage in the second period, finding the back of the net once again for his second goal of the night. His 17th of the season pushed the Soo’s lead to 3-0. Later in the frame, Finlay Escasa joined the scoring party, registering his fifth goal of the campaign to round out the second-period scoring and give the Greyhounds a commanding 4-0 cushion.
The onslaught continued in the third period as Frankie Reda capitalized on a Soo power play, netting his third goal of the season to push the lead to 5-0. The Cubs finally managed to get on the board when Jake Hey fired one past Greyhounds netminder Tanner Carriere, scoring his third goal of the season. However, that was all the offense New Liskeard could muster, as the Soo defense shut them down for the remainder of the game.
