SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. – The Soo Eagles of the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League announced Monday that defenceman Gabriel Fisher has committed to NCAA Division III program, the University of Southern New Hampshire, where he will further his education and continue his hockey career in the fall.
A two-year veteran of the NOJHL, the 21-year-old South Bend, Ind., product appeared in 80 career contests in the league.
In all, Fisher amassed 61 points from the back-end for the Eagles, scoring 16 times while doling out 45 assists.
Nine of his tallies came on the power play and he also notched a trio of game-winning goals and had a shorthanded marker as well.
During his time in the league, Fisher’s point totals led all Eagles’ D-men and tied him for fifth overall among all NOJHL defencemen.
In discussing the club’s initial NCAA commitment this season, general manager Bruno Bragagnolo offered: “Gabe brought a strong work ethic and energy, on and off the ice, in his two years with us. His efforts in the community of Sault Ste. Marie, and for the Eagles, are also to be commended. We look forward to following his progress at Southern New Hampshire.”
The USNH Penmen compete out of the six-school Northeast 10 Conference and are based out of Manchester, N.H.
Two other NOJHL alumni attended Southern New Hampshire during the 2024-25 campaign.
They were freshman D-man Adam Boucher (Hearst Lumberjacks/French River Rapids) and sophomore goaltender Sean Geurin (Elliot Lake Red Wings).
