
The Korah Colts secured their place at the top of Northern Ontario high school hockey, clinching the 2025 NOSSA ‘AA/AAA’ Championship title with a thrilling overtime victory over the St. Charles Cardinals on Tuesday, March 4th.
The Colts opened the day with a dominant round-robin performance against the Chippewa Ravens of North Bay. Griffin Albert struck first, netting his second goal of the tournament with an assist from Colton Greene to give Korah a 1-0 lead. However, Chippewa responded on the power play, as Carter Thibodeau fired home an unassisted goal at 2:20 of the first period to tie the game 1-1.
Korah regained control in the second period, with Koen Manchulenko scoring his first goal of the championship at 3:58, assisted by Greene. Manchulenko added another tally late in the period, extending the Colts’ lead to 3-1 with assists from Maxim Battochio and Preston Miller. Chippewa kept the pressure on, with Gavin Thibodeau scoring an unassisted goal just over two minutes into the third to close the gap to 3-2. With time winding down, Deago Campagna sealed the 4-2 victory for Korah with 34 seconds remaining, with Greene registering his third assist of the game.
With a perfect 3-0 record in round-robin play, the Colts advanced to the championship final against the (2-1) St. Charles Cardinals from Sudbury.
In the championship showdown, St. Charles struck first, as Adam Urso found the back of the net at 1:59 of the second period, assisted by Keynan Kydd and Nolan Corriveau. Korah answered back early in the third, with Albert delivering the equalizer at 3:07, assisted by Battochio and Guizzetti. With the game deadlocked at 1-1 at the end of regulation, the contest moved to overtime.
It was Deago Campagna who delivered the game-winning moment, scoring at 2:10 of the second overtime with four on four to secure a 2-1 victory for the Colts. Greene and Samuel Caruso provided the assists on the championship-clinching goal.
With the victory, the Korah Colts will now represent Sault Ste. Marie and Northern Ontario at the 2025 OFSAA ‘AA’ High School Hockey Championships, set to take place in Sudbury from March 18th to 20th. The Colts will look to build on their success as they take on the province’s best in pursuit of an OFSAA title.
