
Two local boxers are returning to Sault Ste. Marie after notching wins in Thunder Bay.
René Chavez and Brent Murray, both representing Steel City MMA fought at “The Battle in Valhalla” Saturday, May 3rd in front of a sold out Thunder Bay crowd.
Murray, making his boxing debut, won a tight contest over Umer Choudary of Winnipeg’s United Boxing club, who was also making his debut.
Chavez, a veteran boxer who also coaches at Steel City MMA, made his return to to the ring after a six year layoff.
“It felt like I was back at home” said Chavez of being back in action after a long hiatus. Chavez would go on to win a unanimous decision against Nick Goudie of Pan Am Boxing in Winnipeg.
“Intense start to finish” is how SCMMA coach Jeremy Paquon described the action for the clubs fighters. “It’s rewarding to see all of the hard work pay off”.
Next up for the Steel City MMA boxers is competition at Parkdale Hall in Toronto in July.
