Over the January 18th and 19th weekend, the Algoma OUA Thunderbird women and men’s curling programs hit the road to take part in a OUA curling event in St Catharines, Ontario.
The Algoma Thunderbird women’s curling program finished the curling event with a challenging 0-4 record, facing tough competition throughout the weekend. In their opening match, they were defeated by Waterloo Warriors with a score of 2-8. Next, the Thunderbirds faced Ontario Tech Ridgebacks, falling 1-13, followed by a tough loss to Guelph gryphons with a score of 0-13. In their final game, Algoma put up a strong fight but were narrowly defeated by McMaster Marauders, 7-9.
The Algoma Thunderbirds men wrapped up their curling event in St. Catharines with a 1-3 record, showing determination throughout the competition. Their journey began with a tough 5-7 loss to Guelph Gryphons, followed by a challenging 3-11 defeat to McMaster Marauders. In their third match, they faced Waterloo Warriors and were narrowly edged out with a 1-7 loss. However, the Thunderbirds bounced back in their final game, securing a 6-3 victory over Ontario Tech Ridgebacks. Despite the mixed results, the team demonstrated resilience and skill, and the win against the Ridgebacks provided a strong finish to their tournament. The experience gained will be crucial for their development as they continue to grow and build their curling program.
