Riding high on a four-game winning streak and fresh off a dominant 33-2 victory at Superior Heights on June 7th, the first-place (4-0) Sault Sabercats hit the road for week five OSFL U18 ‘AA’ East Division action on Saturday, June 14th. Taking the field at the Barrie Community Sports Complex, the Sabercats faced the fifth-place (2-2) Huronia Stallions, who were looking to rebound from a week five loss to the Scarborough Thunder.
Despite explosive plays, the Sabercats suffered their first setback of the 2025 season in a 41-22 defeat. Nathan Guizzetti opened the scoring for Sault Ste. Marie with a punt return touchdown, followed by a successful convert from AJ Coccimiglio. The Sabercats briefly extended their lead after Huronia conceded a safety, but the Stallions responded with sustained offensive pressure. Ethan Carchidi added another major for the Sault, with Coccimiglio again converting. As the game clock expired, Brayden MacLeod pulled in a final touchdown pass from quarterback Matti Tucker, capping the scoring in the loss.
Sabercat coach Jamie Antonello told Saultsports that “we will get back to practice this week and hopefully learn from some of the mistakes we made in today’s loss. I’ve got faith in our team and our leadership that we will rebound.”
Now sitting at 4-1, the Sabercats will regroup as they prepare for week six OSFL action. They head back on the road to Belleville on Sunday, June 22nd, for a key matchup against the Quinte Skyhawks.
