Coming off a hard-fought 21-21 tie at home against the York Lions on June 7th, the fifth-place (2-0-2) Sault Sabercats traveled south to Alumni Field at York University on Saturday, June 14th for a pivotal week five matchup in the OSFL U16 ‘AA’ East Division. Facing the seventh-place Toronto Jr Argos, who were riding momentum from a 38-14 victory over North Bay, the Sabercats grounded out a tough 14-2 win to remain undefeated on the season.
JJ Perrault led the way for the Sabercats with a rushing touchdown and a key defensive scoop-and-score, showcasing his impact in the game. Wesley Tait added the team’s second touchdown following a heads-up defensive play by Evan Boville, who disrupted an Argos lateral that led to the scoring opportunity. Kicker Nicholas Matilla was a perfect two-for-two on converts, helping seal the victory in a low-scoring, defensive battle.
Sabercat coach Will Basawa told Saultsports that “today was a gritty win against an underrated Toronto team. We had a lot of self inflicted damage on our drives but look to be progressing in the right direction. Our two toughest games are next, and it will make or break our playoff standing.”
Now sitting at 3-0-2, the Sabercats hit the road again for week six OSFL action, heading to Belleville on Sunday, June 22nd to take on the Quinte Skyhawks as they continue their push in the U16 ‘AA’ East standings.
