CALGARY, Alta. – The Canadian Junior Hockey League (CJHL) concluded its Annual General Meeting in Calgary with key leadership reappointments and important policy initiatives that reaffirm the league’s commitment to excellence, accountability, and athlete-centred development.
LEADERSHIP REAPPOINTMENTS
The CJHL has announced the re-election of a trio of executive members:
• Robert Mazzuca, Commissioner of the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League (NOJHL), was re-elected as the CJHL’s Chair of the Board.
• Ryan Bartoshyk, Commissioner of the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL), was re-elected as Western Vice-Chair.
• Kevin Figsby, Commissioner of the Quebec Junior AAA Hockey League (QJAAHL), was re-elected as Eastern Vice-Chair.
This trio brings invaluable experience and stability to the organization as it continues to evolve and grow.
NATIONAL CODE OF CONDUCT & MALTREATMENT POLICY
The CJHL member leagues in attendance at the AGM, which took place during the Centennial Cup Canadian National Junior A Championship, unanimously passed a motion to adopt a National CJHL Code of Conduct and Maltreatment Policy, developed in partnership with Hockey Canada.
This landmark policy aims to ensure the highest standards of safety, respect, and accountability across all CJHL member leagues.
Under this new policy:
• All reported violations will be reviewed by Hockey Canada’s Independent Third Party, ensuring transparency and integrity.
• The policy applies universally across all CJHL teams and personnel, reinforcing a unified and athlete-first culture.
ATHLETE-FIRST MINIMUM OPERATING STANDARDS COMMITTEE
Furthering its commitment to player welfare, the CJHL member leagues in attendance unanimously approved a motion to form a CJHL Committee tasked with developing CJHL Minimum Operating Standards.
This initiative will focus on creating a consistent and athlete-first framework across all CJHL leagues, ensuring every player and staff member receives high-quality development, support, and care.
“These decisions represent a critical step forward for the CJHL,” stated CJHL Chair of the Board Robert Mazzuca. “We are united in our vision to not only lead in competition, but also in the integrity, development, and safety of the athletes who wear our jerseys.”
