Over the April 18th to 20th weekend, the U13 Soo City United boys showed what true heart, resilience, and unity look like. Despite receiving catastrophic news from back home about the tragic loss of a Soo City United player who was deeply loved by many on their coaching staff and within our team, these boys found the strength to carry on.
They finished the Canada Cup Showcase in Ottawa undefeated, capping off their tournament with a hard-fought 3-2 victory in the final game to place first in their division. Many of them took the pitch with tears still fresh on their faces. With injuries and players having to return home due to the heartbreaking events, we were left with minimal spares but these boys battled through with unmatched courage and determination.
“To say we’re proud would be an understatement. They’ve proven that no matter how heavy the burden, when you come together as a team, anything is possible. These boys are something special not just for how they play, but for who they are on and off the field,” said coach Steve Mazzuca.
