The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League (NOJHL) announced Monday, April 21st that a trio of defencemen in Spencer Horgan (Greater Sudbury Cubs); Adam Shillinglaw (Hearst Lumberjacks) and Cole Miller (Hearst Lumberjacks) have been named its Three Stars of the Week, for the period ending April 20.
Spencer Horgan, (D) Greater Sudbury Cubs: Figuring in on six of the seven goals the Cubs collected in the first two games of the league final, the 20-year-old from Bowmanville, Ont., scored once and assisted on five others.
His contributions saw him extend a scoring streak to six consecutive contests and also etch his name on the game sheet in eight of nine postseason outings. He has also registered five multi-point performances.
A product of the Quinte Red Devils U18 AAA program, Horgan leads all NOJHL blueliners in playoff numbers with 14 points on three tallies and 11 helpers.
Adam Shillinglaw, (D) Hearst Lumberjacks: The veteran rearguard dished out four assists for Hearst as part of a road split to begin the NOJHL championship series.
Each of Shillinglaw’s points came via special teams as he helped set-up three on the power play, and another while shorthanded.
Skating for his hometown New Liskeard Cubs in his minor hockey days, the NOJHL’s Top Defenceman Award recipient currently sits second in offensive production among D-men with 16 points in 11 games, including three goals.
Cole Miller, (D) Hearst Lumberjacks: The Lumberjacks rookie D-man from Chilliwack, B.C., chipped in from the back-end with three points last week.
This included his first NOJHL playoff marker as well as assisting on the game-winner in a series-opening victory.
Joining the league this season out of the Fraser Valley Thunderbirds U18 ranks, Miller enters Game 3 of the league final topping all rookie defencemen in scoring with eight points and also leads the way with his seven assists by first-year blueliners.
