
It was a weekend to remember for the Soo U13A Greyhounds, who skated into Toronto from April 11th to 13th to compete in the 2025 Ontario Women’s Hockey Association (OWHA) Provincials, joining 30 of the province’s top U13 girls hockey programs in a showcase of talent, determination, and provincial pride.
The Greyhounds opened their championship weekend early Friday morning with an 8:15 a.m. puck drop against the Scarborough Sharks. The Soo set the tone immediately, locking down a 3–0 shutout victory in a commanding performance.
Later that day, the Greyhounds were back on the ice to face another Shark program—the Barrie Sharks. Building on their early momentum, the Soo skated to a 5–2 win, finishing Day 1 of the tournament with a perfect 2–0 record.
Saturday morning’s matchup at 10:45 a.m. saw the Soo face off against the Guelph Jr. Gryphons. The Greyhounds continued their stellar defensive play, earning their second shutout of the tournament with a convincing 4–0 win. In their final round-robin game at 5:15 p.m., the Greyhounds rounded out an unbeaten preliminary round with a 5–2 victory over the Stoney Creek Sabres.
Sunday’s semi-final brought a northern Ontario showdown, as the Greyhounds faced the Thunder Bay Queens in an 8:00 a.m. clash. In a tightly contested battle, the Soo edged the Queens 2–1, booking their ticket to the OWHA U13A gold medal game.
In the championship final, the Greyhounds took on a tough Nepean Wildcats squad. In a hard-fought, fast-paced game, the Soo fell just short, dropping a narrow 2–1 decision and bringing home the silver medal to Sault Ste. Marie.
The Soo U13A Greyhounds finished the OWHA Provincials with an outstanding 5–1 record, demonstrating exceptional skill, teamwork, and resilience throughout the weekend.
