A proud moment for Northern Ontario hockey as former Soo Greyhounds AAA standout and Marathon native Brock Chitaroni was selected third overall by the Ottawa 67’s in the first round of the 2025 OHL Priority Selection Draft.
Chitaroni, 16, has shown promise and poise beyond his years, impressing scouts with his strong two-way play, offensive creativity, and physical edge. The 5’11″, 170-pound forward began turning heads early in his career while playing minor hockey in Sault Ste. Marie.
During the 2021–22 U14 season with the Soo U14 AAA Greyhounds, Chitaroni notched 13 goals and 30 assists for 43 points in just 23 regular season games, along with 24 penalty minutes, establishing himself as a key playmaker. He followed that up in the 2022–23 U15 season with 20 goals and 22 assists in 47 games, while also adding 32 penalty minutes, proving his ability to maintain offensive consistency as he faced tougher competition. In the postseason, he chipped in with one assist over three games.
The last two seasons have been especially pivotal in Chitaroni’s development. He moved south to join the Barrie Colts U16 AAA program, where he continued to elevate his game. In 66 regular season games, he racked up an impressive 50 goals and 48 assists, solidifying himself as one of the top offensive threats in his age group. He added 12 goals and 15 assists in postseason play with the U16 Colts, catching the attention of OHL scouts and especially the Ottawa 67’s.
After Barrie’s 2024–25 playoff run came to an end, Brock made a return to Northern Ontario for a brief stint in junior hockey, joining his older brother Mason with the NOJHL’s Greater Sudbury Cubs. In the midst of a semi-final playoff series against the Soo Thunderbirds, Chitaroni suited up for three games and scored once, gaining valuable experience at the junior A level and sharing the ice with his sibling.
Chitaroni’s blend of skill, grit, and hockey IQ makes him an exciting addition to the Ottawa 67’s organization. His Northern roots, strong work ethic, and consistent production have laid the foundation for what many believe will be a successful OHL career — and possibly beyond.
As the 67’s gear up for the 2025–26 campaign, all eyes will be on this highly touted prospect from Marathon, Ontario, ready to make his mark on major junior hockey.
