In their second game of the weekend for the New Liskeard Cubs, New Liskeard hit the ice on Sunday, February 2nd coming off a February 1st 5 – 1 loss to the Soo U16 Greyhounds in GNU18HL action.
The Soo Greyhounds secured a commanding 5-1 victory over the New Liskeard Cubs, thanks to an impressive performance from Alessandro Parco, who registered his first hat trick of the season.
Parco opened the scoring in the first period, netting his 14th goal of the season to give the Greyhounds an early 1-0 lead. His offensive presence continued after a strong performance on Saturday, February 1st, when he scored twice with the Blind River Beavers of the NOJHL.
Early in the second period, Caleb Walker extended the Soo lead to 2-0, adding to his weekend total with his 18th goal of the season. New Liskeard responded with a powerplay goal from Ethan Roy, his first of the season, cutting the deficit to 2-1. However, Parco quickly restored the Greyhounds’ two-goal advantage, netting his second of the night to make it 3-1.
Dylan Rousselle then found the back of the net behind New Liskeard goaltender Cooper Peever, registering his ninth goal of the season to put the Soo ahead 4-1 heading into the third period.
With the lone goal in the final frame, Parco completed his hat trick on a powerplay, beating Cubs’ netminder Matt Leitch to seal the 5-1 victory for the Greyhounds.
Soo goaltender Nick Marson delivered a strong performance between the pipes, allowing just one goal and backstopping the team to a decisive win.
Next action for the Soo U18 Greyhounds will be on Wednesday, February 12th for a midweek clash against the Soo U16 Greyhounds with a 5:30 p.m puck drop.
