On Friday, January 31st, the first place (16-1) Korah Colts headed to Thessalon, Ontario to take on the second place (12-4) CASS Huskies in Sault Ste Marie, Ontario.
The Korah Colts skated to a decisive 6-3 victory over the CASS Huskies in a fast-paced high school hockey matchup. Deago Campagna opened the scoring for Korah with a powerplay goal in the first period, finding the back of CASS netminder Cash Roswell to give the Colts a 1-0 lead. The goal marked Campagna’s 15th tally of the season. However, the Huskies responded on a power play of their own, as Dom Corbett evened the game 1-1 with an unassisted goal past Korah goaltender Kylan Roy.
The Colts quickly regained the lead when Koen Manchulenko notched his 18th goal of the season, making it 2-1. Manchulenko wasn’t done there, as he opened the second period with his second goal of the game, extending Korah’s advantage to 3-1.
CASS cut into the lead when Teagun Beaulieu found the back of the net for his fourth goal of the season, bringing the Huskies within one. However, Korah’s offensive depth proved too much, as Tyler Lang restored the two-goal lead with his 19th goal of the season, making it 4-2. Lang then struck again to record his second of the game, giving the Colts a commanding 5-2 advantage heading into the third period.
Korah continued its dominance in the final frame when Maxim Battochio buried an unassisted goal, his fourth of the season, to extend the lead to 6-2. Austin Finlayson closed out the scoring for CASS, registering his third goal of the season, but it wasn’t enough to spark a comeback.
The Colts next opponent will be on Sunday, February 2nd to take on the Superior Heights Steelhawks at 6:30 p.m while the Huskies face the White Pines Wolverines at 8:00 p.m with both games taking place at the John Rhodes Centre.
