The second ranked (21-8) Sault College Cougars are set to hit the ice this weekend for games three and four of the 2025 Lou Lukenda Cup against the tenth ranked (13-10-1-1) Lake Superior State University Lakers. The action will take place at the Taffey Abel Arena in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, with puck drop scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on Friday, January 31st, and 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 1st.
The Cougars opened the Lou Lukenda Cup series in dominant fashion back in November, securing two decisive victories on home ice in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. A 9-1 win on November 22nd and a 9-2 victory on November 23rd set the tone for the series, and Sault College will be looking to maintain their momentum in this highly anticipated rematch.
Cougars’ offensive firepower comes from the charge for Sault College is Ethan Esposito, who has been a powerhouse with 20 goals and 20 assists in 27 games played. He is followed closely by Jacob Kovacs, who has tallied 8 goals and 21 assists in 27 games, and Brock Santa Maria, contributing 11 goals and 17 assists in 25 games.
Between the pipes, Gavin Disano has been the top netminder for the Cougars, posting a 2.85 goals-against average with 10 wins, three losses, and one shutout in 14 games. Trennis Riley has also provided solid goaltending, appearing in 15 games with a 3.88 goals-against average, seven wins, five losses, and one shutout.
The Lakers are aiming to rebound and looking to turn the tide on home ice. Hayden Goldstein leads the team in scoring with 21 goals and 16 assists in 22 games, while Derrick Brown has been a strong playmaker with 8 goals and 21 assists in 21 games. Seth Stock rounds out the Lakers’ top scorers with 6 goals and 15 assists in 20 games.
In net, Logan Raffaele has played 11 games for LSSU, posting a 3.19 goals-against average with six wins, three losses, and one overtime loss. His goaltending partner, Sean Piotrowicz, has seen action in 12 games, recording a 3.61 goals-against average with five wins, five losses, and one shutout loss.
