KIRKLAND LAKE, Ont. – Continuing their winning ways over the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners, the Timmins Rock pumped in four first period goals and never looked back in skating to a lopsided 11-0 triumph Friday in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League contest at Joe Mavrinac Community Complex.
Timmins got the game’s initial tally, 11:23 in when Lucas Lowe won a draw back to Sam Gallagher, who quickly whipped a shot that was redirected in out of mid-air by Reece Liu.
Banging in three more, via rapid succession, in the latter portion of the frame, the Rock took a 4-0 lead to the intermission.
Ryan Armitage began the outburst by jamming one under Kirkland Lake’s Mason Janicki from the top of the crease.
Capitalizing on a turnover, Thomas Beard converted moments later to extend the visitor’s cushion.
Timmins then tacked on a fourth in the final minute as Lowe knocked in a spinning blast from up top courtesy of Elijah Pool.
Moving to the middle frame, a goaltending change saw Caleb Shuker enter in relief for the Gold Miners.
However, Armitage added to the visitors’ edge four and a half minutes into the session as he finished off a rebound from between the circles.
A sixth on the night for the Rock saw Alexis Tremblay bull his way out from the side boards and sizzle a shot by the blocker of Shuker, near the midway point of the match-up.
Generating another, a long stretch pass by Tenzin Nyman allowed Brant Romaniuk to fire a feed across to Clark Scaddan, who put it in.
Going to a two-man advantage, Nyman worked a give-and-go with Romaniuk and quickly wired one from the left circle.
In the final frame, the Timmins power play clicked again when Kai Clayton fired a shot through traffic that appeared to hit off Tremblay, then change direction, and find its way into the left corner.
Scaddan and Armitage then wrapped up the one-sided result with late markers.
Rock goalkeeper Dryden Riley posted his fourth career shutout for Timmins in the win.
