The Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) has announced Monday, January 6th its Players of the Week for January 3-4 and four student-athletes from four different programs have been recognized. Lucas Wahlin (St. Thomas) claimed Forward of the Week honors, while Hayden Hennen (Augustana) was selected Defenseman of the Week. Christian Stoever (Bowling Green) was the league’s Goaltender of the Week and Logan Morrell (Michigan Tech) picked up his third consecutive Rookie of the Week honor.
CCHA Forward of the Week: Lucas Wahlin, Jr., St. Thomas (Woodbury, Minn.)
Wahlin led the Tommies to a road sweep of Lindenwood, picking up three points on a goal and two assists, with a CCHA-best +5 rating and seven shots. On Friday, he set up the game-winning goal in a 3-2 victory over the Lions. He then scored the tying goal and assisted on the game-winner in a 4-2 St. Thomas come-from-behind victory on Saturday.
CCHA Defenseman of the Week: Hayden Hennen, So., Augustana (Hallock, Minn.)
Hennen paced all CCHA blueliners with three points last week, scoring a goal and assisting on two more. Posting a +2 for the weekend, he scored the game-winning goal and picked up an assist in a 5-1 victory at No. 8 Colorado College on Friday night. He followed that up by assisting on the game-winning goal in a 3-2 triumph over the Tigers on Saturday. For the weekend, he totaled six shots on goal and had four blocks defensively.
CCHA Goaltender of the Week: Christian Stoever, Sr., Bowling Green (Northville, Mich.)
Stoever was nearly perfect last week, going 2-0-0 with a 0.50 goals-against average and .986 save percentage, stopping 71-of-72 shots in a road sweep of Lake Superior State. On Friday, he recorded a 34-save shutout in a 3-0 Falcons win, before making 37 saves in a 3-1 victory on Saturday. For the weekend, he stopped all 58 shots faced while at even-strength.
CCHA Rookie of the Week: Logan Morrell, Fr., Michigan Tech (Mesa, Ariz.)
Morrell led CCHA rookies with three points last week, scoring a game-winning goal and recording two assists at the Cactus Cup in Palm Springs, Calif. Posting a +2 rating with five shots on goal, he won 58.1% (25-of-43) of his face-offs. On Friday, he had one assist in a 3-2 loss to No. 10 UMass Lowell. He then set up a third-period goal, before scoring the overtime winner in a 4-3 victory over Holy Cross on Saturday.
