As the Sault Ste. Marie High School Hockey League heads into the final stretch of 2024, the standings are heating up with some intense competition. Here’s a look at the Week Eight standings as of December 18th:
- CASS Huskies (9-2-0, 18 Points)
The CASS Huskies are sitting comfortably at the top of the standings with an impressive 9-2 record and 18 points. Leading the charge is forward Brody Kleist, who is dominating the league with 17 goals and 7 assists in just 10 games. Kleist’s offensive explosion has been a key factor in the Huskies’ strong performance this season. Tyler Quenneville and Dom Corbett round out the top three scorers, adding depth to an already potent attack. With the Huskies leading the way, they’re hoping to carry this momentum into the second half of the season. - Korah Colts (8-2-2, 16 Points)
The undefeated Korah Colts are right behind CASS with an 8-2 record and two overtime wins, giving them 16 points. The Colts have been one of the league’s most consistent teams, and their success is largely due to their strong goaltending. Kylan Roy and Peyton Melchiorre have been rock-solid between the pipes, both earning four wins. Roy leads the league with a stellar 0.49 goals-against average (GAA), having allowed only two goals in 183 minutes. Melchiorre has been no slouch either, posting a 1.21 GAA with five goals allowed in 186 minutes. The Colts will look to continue their strong play as they prepare for a tough second half of the season. - St. Mary’s Knights (4-7-1, 10 Points)
The St. Mary’s Knights are holding steady in third place with 10 points from four wins, seven losses, and one overtime win. Despite struggling with consistency, the Knights are still in the hunt thanks to some key players stepping up. With eight games remaining, the Knights will need to find a way to string together some wins to stay within striking distance of the top spots. - Superior Heights Steelhawks (4-7-2, 10 Points)
The Superior Heights Steelhawks are tied with St. Mary’s for third place, also sitting on 10 points. The Steelhawks have recorded four wins and seven losses, along with two overtime losses, in 11 games. With a similar record to the Knights, the Steelhawks will need to build off their overtime experience and capitalize on any opportunities to move up the standings. - White Pines Wolverines (0-9-1, 1 Point)
The White Pines Wolverines are currently in fifth place with only one point from an overtime loss in their 10 games. Struggling to find consistency, the Wolverines will be looking to turn things around in the second half of the season. Though they have faced a tough road so far, there is still time to improve and potentially make a push for a higher spot in the standings.
As the season progresses, the race for the top spot is shaping up to be an exciting one, with the Huskies and Colts leading the charge. With strong performances from players like Kleist, Roy, and Melchiorre, the competition is fierce, and every point is crucial as teams prepare for the remainder of the season.
