
On Tuesday, May 20th, the Soo 18U Black Sox crossed the International Bridge for a highly anticipated doubleheader against the Sault High Blue Devils. The matchup, which brought together talent from both sides of the border, delivered competitive baseball and a spirited atmosphere. With players eager to represent their squads in this cross-border clash, the doubleheader served as a key early test in the season, offering valuable experience and showcasing the depth and skill on both rosters.
In game one, the Black Sox opened the scoring in the third after Chase Cerasuolo drew a walk, scoring one run.
Kolton Tremblay earned the win for the Soo. The starting pitcher allowed two hits and zero runs over four innings, striking out six and walking one. Bell took the loss for the Blue Devils. The starting pitcher went four innings, surrendering three runs (two earned) on two hits, striking out two and walking seven. Tye Turco threw two innings of no-run ball for the Soo in relief. The reliever surrendered zero hits, striking out two and walking none.
Logan Rohe led the Black Sox with two runs batted in from the number nine spot in the lineup. The right fielder went 1-for-1 on the day. Ryan Oliver led the Soo with two hits in four at bats. The Black Sox had a strong eye at the plate, tallying nine walks for the game. Cerasuolo and Rohe led the team with two free passes each. Tremblay stole two bases.
Bell and Kavanaugh were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected one hit for Sault High.
Game two hit the diamond at 6:00 p.m for the second contest of the May 20th doubleheader. The Blue Devils got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after Bell singled, scoring two runs, Medrick hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run, and Kennedy singled, scoring one run.
Ryan Oliver pitched three innings in relief for the Black Sox. The reliever gave up one hit and zero runs while, striking out three and walking none. Hunter Thorkilson opened the game for the Soo. The pitcher allowed three hits and four runs over two innings, striking out one and walking three. Maurer led things off on the hill for Sault High. The hurler gave up zero hits and two runs (zero earned) over two and two-thirds innings, striking out three and walking one.
Lucas DiBerardino and Daniel Stocco each collected one hit for the Black Sox. The Soo turned two double plays in the game.
Bell provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led the Blue Devils with two runs batted in. The number three hitter went 1-for-3 on the day. Kennedy, Bell, Wood, and Gibbons each collected one hit for Sault High. The Blue Devils turned one double play in the game.
